Melasti stands out from Uluwatu's other beaches for one simple reason: it's the easiest to reach, with a paved road cut directly through the limestone cliff down to the sand, rather than a steep staircase. That accessibility has made it increasingly popular, with white sand and turquoise water framed by the same dramatic cliff walls as its neighbours, plus a growing strip of beach clubs and warungs along the clifftop above.

02Suluban Beach

Home to Uluwatu's most famous surf break, Suluban is reached through a narrow cave-like passage cut into the cliff — a striking approach that opens onto a beach that's really more of a surf-watching and photography spot than a swimming beach for most visitors, given the powerful reef break offshore. The clifftop above has a well-established row of warungs with direct views over the break, a good spot to watch experienced surfers work the wave without getting in the water yourself.

03Bingin Beach

A steep staircase leads down to Bingin, a small cove beach backed by cliffside warungs and guesthouses stacked dramatically up the rock face — one of the more photogenic settings on this whole stretch of coast. It's a legitimate surf spot for more experienced riders, and the beach itself is compact enough that it can feel crowded at low tide when the sand is at its widest.

04Balangan & Dreamland

Balangan offers a longer stretch of sand than most of its neighbours, with a more laid-back, less built-up feel and a beach break that suits intermediate surfers well. Dreamland, a short distance away, has a wider commercial beach club presence and is one of the more developed beaches in the area — the name itself dates back to an abandoned 1990s resort development, with the beach outliving the failed project by decades.

05Practical tips for the whole circuit

  • None of these beaches are directly walkable to each other along the coast — plan on a scooter or driver moving between them via the clifftop roads.
  • Swimming conditions vary significantly by beach and tide — ask locally before swimming out past the shallows at any of them, given the reef breaks and currents.
  • Sunset is the busiest window at all five; a mid-morning visit trades some drama for far fewer people.
  • Pair this circuit with the Uluwatu Kecak fire dance in the evening for a full day in the area.
