03Menjangan Island: walls & coral
Part of West Bali National Park, Menjangan is widely regarded as some of Bali's best all-round diving — steep coral walls, clear water and comparatively light crowds given the more remote location.
04Nusa Penida & Lembongan: currents & big fish
The Nusa Islands offer Bali's best chance of encountering larger pelagic species, including seasonal mola mola (sunfish) sightings and manta ray cleaning stations — but with genuinely stronger currents than Amed or Tulamben, better suited to divers with some experience.

06How to actually choose
New or infrequent divers should lean toward Amed or Tulamben; more experienced divers chasing bigger marine life should prioritise Nusa Penida; anyone wanting the most reliably excellent reef with the least crowding should make the extra effort to reach Menjangan.
