Perched on a sandstone cliff roughly 100 metres above the Indian Ocean on the southwestern tip of the Bukit Peninsula, Alila Villas Uluwatu was one of the pioneering resorts in this stretch of coast, designed by Singapore-based WOHA Architects around genuinely rigorous sustainability principles — it holds the highest EarthCheck design certification awarded in Indonesia.
02The setting & rooms
All 65-plus villas are freestanding with a private pool, open-plan living and lava-rock or bamboo detailing chosen for passive cooling as much as aesthetics — walkways and bridges connect pavilions rather than enclosed corridors, keeping the sea breeze moving through the property.
03Dining & facilities
The resort's signature feature is its 50-metre cliff-edge infinity pool, where the water appears to merge directly with the ocean horizon. Two restaurants serve contemporary cuisine with a Balinese wellness focus, and a cantilevered yoga pavilion hosts daily morning classes over the cliff edge.
