01Why these names matter
"Uluwatu" gets used loosely to describe the whole southern peninsula, but Ungasan and Pecatu are the actual villages most of that area's clifftop villas, warungs and access roads sit within — useful to know when booking accommodation or reading an address, since "Uluwatu" alone doesn't pin down where specifically you'll be.
02Ungasan
Ungasan sits toward the southern tip of the peninsula, home to a growing cluster of clifftop villas and close to Pandawa Beach. It's quieter and more spread out than the areas closer to Uluwatu Temple itself, with development still noticeably less dense than South Bali's more established hubs.
03Pecatu
Pecatu covers much of the western side of the peninsula, including access to several of the beaches in our Uluwatu beach circuit guide — Bingin, Balangan and Dreamland all sit within Pecatu's boundaries, even though most visitors just refer to them by the beach name rather than the village.
04Getting around the peninsula
Distances here are genuinely longer than they look on a map, and the road network is less dense than South Bali's more built-up areas — a scooter or driver is close to essential, since walking between beaches or villas isn't realistic given the terrain and distances involved.
05Who this area suits
